Employees from the marketing group of CBK Hardware, Inc. rolled up their sleeves on May 18, 2024, and joined the Samahan ng Labac Pawikan Patrollers (SLPP) in a vital mission to protect the Philippines' critically endangered sea turtles.
The day's activities kicked off with an informative session on the Olive Ridley turtle, a species teetering on the brink of extinction. Participants gained insights into the turtles' unique challenges and their importance in the marine ecosystem. Armed with this knowledge, the team then combed the coastline of Calle Cena, Labac, collecting debris that could harm sea turtles and other marine life.
Recognizing the need for safe nesting environments, the group then collaborated to build a hatchery, providing a haven for future generations of these majestic creatures. Additionally, CBK donated 20 flashlights to the community, empowering them to conduct nighttime patrols and safeguard nesting sites.
This philanthropic endeavor was inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water. With the Philippines being a sanctuary for five of the world's seven sea turtle species—all facing threats of extinction—CBK is committed to doing its part to safeguard these vulnerable creatures.
The immersive experience in Naic served as a wake-up call for CBK employees, underscoring the devastating impact of human negligence on marine life. The company hopes this event will catalyze further action among its staff, inspiring them to take individual steps towards a more sustainable future.
As a fitting end to the day, CBK employees shared a meal with the SLPP, fostering camaraderie and celebrating their shared commitment to environmental preservation.
